With wider recognition of diverse sexual orientations and gender identifications, more and more people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered are seeking therapy for support. Sometimes this can be for issues related to their orientation or gender identity, and other times simply for the same issues for which anyone else seeks therapy. We understand that there are some stressors and struggles that are unique to LGBT people. Many of our therapists identify as Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual or have received specialist training to be able to assist. Many in the LGBTQI+ community may experience stress factors not experienced by the rest of society. Prejudice & homophobia are certainly still prevalent, but there are also issues of coming out, exploring sexuality and sexual identity that can lead to higher levels of depression and anxiety for those who are LGBTQI+. Therapy can help explore the choices and emotions that can be part of the experiences of being LGBT.
