Choosing the right Therapist for you

Choosing the right Therapist for you

We can feel alot of pressure to find the ‘right’ therapist. Our ability to connect or not, our fearfulness taking the first step, our fears of being judged can all be at the forefront of our mind when we are already feeling overwhelmed or burned out.

Choosing the right therapist for you can be clarified in a few easy steps:

1. Do you want to see your therapist local to your home or work or do you prefer the anonymity of seeing someone further away.
2. Do you want to work in person or online?
3. Do you want brief time limited therapy or a more long term healing journey?
4. What areas of expertise do you need your therapist to have? Most therapists will have experience of working through bereavement, relationship issues, anxiety and depression symptoms. However more specialist areas include addictions, Sexuality/LGBT and sexual abuse/assault. Feel free to ask the therapist what experience and expertise they have so you can ensure you get the right support.
5. Do you have a preference for a particular gender or age group of your therapist? Having a sense of who will feel easier for you to open up to and trust will help.
